Beginning in January of 2024, Kentucky will be switching over to KAVIS, a new Motor Vehicle Licensing system. As this change is mandatory for all County Clerks statewide, we ask for your patience and we appreciate your understanding as we navigate through this new system in order to better serve you.

With the incorporation of KAVIS, THE AUTO DEPARTMENT of the Ohio County Clerk’s Office will be closed to the public starting Friday, December 29, 2023 and will re-open on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

Motor Vehicle Licensing is the most frequently visited area of the Clerk’s office. Motor vehicle licenses must be renewed annually and any sale of a motor vehicle must be registered within 15 days of purchase.

The Motor Vehicle Department enables citizens to look up information on tagging vehicles, what types of plates are available, necessary paperwork to register a vehicle, paperwork needed to apply for a duplicate title, and phone numbers and links to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to find out information on DOT numbers, apportion plates, etc., as well as download and print forms.
